As homeowners, we can all testify to the fact that plumbing emergencies happen and often times at the most inopportune times of all. Further, they can present with abundant struggles and disrupt everyday living and routines. It is important for homeowners to understand when and if your plumbing issue is in fact an emergency. With that said, the dedicated team here at Steve Mull Plumbing wants to provide a simple guide to help our valued clients know when it is an emergency to contact a plumber or when you can actually wait until the normal business hours to reach out.
SOME SIMPLE FACTS TO PONDER FIRST
When a plumbing issue arises, before you reach for that phone, ask yourself a couple of simple but practical questions. For starters, will the problem at hand result in more excessive damage and, if so, then don’t hesitate to call a plumber. You may also want to consider whether there is a temporary alternative solution you can put in place to handle the issue. If so, then it’s best to wait for normal business hours. If not, or if you are uncertain, then surely call a plumber. Further, consider whether the problem impacts your everyday routine. If so, then don’t delay. Finally, determine if you can shut off the main valve to the water, putting the existing problem temporarily on hold until such time that your plumbing company is open for regular business hours.
REAL PLUMBING EMERGENCIES
We thought we would take some time to share a few plumbing issues that would more than likely require immediate attention and an immediate call our to a professional.
- Burst pipes – When a pipe bursts, it can certainly cause a great deal of damage, and costly damages at that. If it occurs, immediately turn off the main water valve and call out to the pros here at Steve Mull Plumbing. If you delay, you may find yourself faced with flood conditions in your home.
- Clogged main drain – If there is a main drain within your home that becomes clogged, everything will begin to back up. Often times debris and even tree roots can cause damage to pipes causing the massive clog. Don’t delay should a main clog and backup occur. Call out to our emergency line right away.
- Damaged hot water tank – If you take note of a smell similar to that of rotten eggs near the hot water tank, be sure to contact our team immediately. This typically indicates a natural gas leak. Once you detect the smell, do not use the hot water, do not smoke and do not cook. Rather, turn off the main gas line to the house and get on the phone immediately.
- Toilet clogged and overflowing – If you have a toilet that just continues to overflow and you are not able to manage it, it’s best to reach out to our pros, especially if it is the only toilet in the house.
