Certainly, water is quite an essential component in life. In today’s green world, conserving water is a primary concern for so many people. Surely plumbers know and understand the importance of this very critical task and spend long hours doing just that. Whether identifying and solving water leaks, recommending low flow fixtures to homeowners or providing ‘green’ procedures for both saving water and saving energy costs, the team here at Steve Mull Plumbing stands ready to serve you.
Here at Steve Mull Plumbing our clients are our #1 priority which is why we want to take this time to acquaint you all with several practical tips on saving water this summer. Most are simple to perform, practical beyond words, and take very little effort to accomplish. Here are some of the easiest, and most effective ways of minimizing water use this summer.
Watering the Yard in Your Home – Make it a habit to water your lawn in either the early morning hours or the early evening hours, but never set out to water it during the hot afternoon hours. When the outdoor temperatures are cooler, the water is able to soak into the ground much better requiring the use of much less water.
Proper pool maintenance and care – For many pool owners covering the pool in the off season and uncovering in the summer takes a good deal of time and work. However, doing so keeps the water in the pool from evaporating which ultimately reduces the amount of water that is needed at the start of the next summer season.
Invest in that energy saving dishwasher – Today’s energy star rated dishwashers use less than three gallons of water for each load of dishes. As many of us already know, washing your dishes by hand uses near to 27 gallons of water. Quite a difference and quite a savings, wouldn’t you say?
Let’s go green with the use of a rain barrel – In today’s green world, everyone is always on the lookout for new energy saving techniques. Putting a rain barrel underneath your gutter and collecting the water to reuse, perhaps in a backyard garden, is a common green technique for saving water and money.
Trust your car wash facility – Automatic car washes have the capability of using only 40 gallons of water per vehicle wash cycle compared to the unlimited amount of water used when washing your vehicle in your own yard with a bucket of soap and a hose. Again, another quick and easy way to save a good amount of water.
Those relaxing showers and baths – There is something entirely more relaxing about taking a long hot bath, over a long hot shower. Though it may be therapeutic to many, keep in mind that it takes anywhere between 30 to 50 gallons of water to fill the average bathtub, but only 20 gallons or less of water to relax in that hot shower. So perhaps you want to think twice about taking that bath, especially if saving water and energy is your ultimate goal.
Summer is truly right around the corner now, so it’s time to start thinking about all those summer challenges. Saving water, money and energy is a common goal of most homeowners and is a focal point of the team here at Steve Mull Plumbing as well.
