Most, if not all, homeowners and even business owners will agree that plumbing problems can be not only difficult and challenging, but time consuming and every bit costly. There are some minor common plumbing problems that can turn into simple DIY projects that homeowners are able to fix themselves, but for those you cannot fix yourself it is important to be able to diagnose a problem and hire a professional plumber to identify the issue at hand and provide effective and efficient solutions. With that said the team here at Steve Mull Plumbing wants to share some of the most common plumbing issues that many home and business owners have to tackle.
COMMON PLUMBING PROBLEMS
Broken Pipes – Many homes and businesses face aging structures that include water pipes that are near to the end of their life expectancy. Though most water pipe replacements tend to be the responsibility of the town or city, there are some hardships, financial as well, that are the responsibility of local home and business owners. If you have a major leak, minimized water pressure, or even excessive damp spots in your yard, be sure to reach out to a professional plumber right away to determine if broken pipes are the source of your plumbing issues.
Slow Drains – If you have a single drain that has slowed in your home, then chances are you have a localized drain clog. If such is the case, be sure to inspect the drain closely to ensure that there is nothing obvious that is causing the clog. If nothing is present, your next option would be to try using a handy plunger to clear the clog. If your problem persists, you may want to try pouring a half cup of baking soda down the clogged drain and follow that with a half cup of vinegar. Let the mixture set for a couple hours and then rinse it with boiling hot water. If the problem continues to persist, then you may have a much bigger issue at hand that requires you to have your pipes fully inspected and perhaps even replaced.
Toilet Issues – If you notice that there is not enough water in the tank to allow you to fully flush the bowl, you may want to try bending the float arm upward to allow the tank to have a greater water fill before the water turns off. If, on the other hand, you have sufficient water in the tank, but you haven’t enough making its way into the bowl, you should check the tank ball located on your flush valve and consider resetting its guide. If your problem continues to persist it may be time to call in the professionals here at Steve Mull Plumbing.
Leaky Faucets – Faucets that are continuously leaking can certainly contribute to high water bills and can also cause excessive damage. A leaky faucet, more times than not, is caused by a faulty seal on the water valve. To resolve this problem, turn off your main water supply and remove the faucet assembly. Take out the old washer and replace it with the exact same size and style washer. Once you have replaced the washer, turn on the main water supply and confirm that the leaking issue has been resolved.
