Simple Tips for Homeowners
Here at Steve Mull Plumbing, our clients are our #1 priority which is why our team of highly dedicated plumbers wants to take this time to provide you with a few practical water saving tips that you can use during the upcoming summer months. These are a few of the simplest and most effective ways to minimize your water use this summer.
- Maintaining and watering your yard – You should get in the habit of watering your lawn either in the early morning hours or the early evening hours. You should never water your lawn during the hot afternoon hours. During the cooler morning and evening hours, the outdoor temperatures are cooler which allows the water to soak into the ground much better. This ultimately requires the use of much less water.
- Switch to an energy saving dishwasher – Today’s energy star rated dishwashers use much less water. They typically use a bit less than three gallons of water for each load of dishes. Manually washing your dishes uses a whole lot more water which is why we recommend you invest in a new state of the art energy star dishwasher. You will most certainly enjoy substantial savings in the long term.
- We all love the car wash – Automatic car washes use approximately 40 gallons of water per vehicle wash cycle. This is a substantially less amount of water than the amount used when washing your vehicle in your own yard. The car wash is typically very affordable and again, in the long term, you will save a good amount of water and money.
- Limit the length of your showers and avoid baths – Although a long hot shower can be so relaxing and therapeutic, it can also be quite costly. Be mindful of the fact that it takes between 30 and 50 gallons of water to fill the average bathtub, but only 20 gallons or less of water to relax in a routine hot shower. It may very well be wise to choose that hot shower over that long hot bath, especially if water saving techniques are high on your list this summer.
